“Deep Life Paper” and “SiYuan-Ocean Emerging Leaders” Awards were established in 2021 by International Center for Deep Life Investigation (IC-DLI), which is the international platform for communication and collaboration in deep life research. Purpose of the annual awards is to recognize significant scholar contribution and outstanding early career researchers, which will potentially increase motivation and contribution to research and foster next generation of deep life researchers.

In 2021, IC-DLI selected five “Deep Life Paper” and two young researchers as “SiYuan-Ocean Emerging Leaders”. Winners of both awards delivered seven impressive presentations in IC-DLI webinars series and the series attracted more than 800 researchers worldwide. IC-DLI is expecting more researchers who have passion and interest in deep life research to participate in award selection and webinar series followed.

Here we are calling for voting and nomination for 2021 awards.

ELIGIBILITY

“Deep Life Paper”

We have prepared a nominations list in the paper list link. All papers were published in 2021 and contributed important results or break-through discoveries to deep life investigation. Papers are recommended by ICDLI science advisory committee and executive committee members. If you find outstanding deep life papers are not involved in the paper list, please contact Manping Zhang by email: icdli-mailing@sjtu.edu.cn.

“SiYuan-Ocean Emerging Leaders”

Early career researchers within eight years of PhD, who exhibit distinguished performance and outstanding potential as leaders of the deep life community.

SELECTION PROCESS

Every participant could recommend 3- 5 best papers from the list and nominate 1-2 researchers. Please provide reasons for recommendation of “SiYuan-Ocean Emerging Leaders”. The voting form can be accessed via link. Due to vacation of Chinese New Year and update of nominated paper list,  we will extend the voting and nomination period to  February 07, 2022. The system will be closed by 12:00 midnight of February 07, 2022 (UTC+08:00, Beijing Time) .

After voting, the IC-DLI Awards Committee will select recipients for each award based on the shortlist but not exclusively. The Awards committee will be led by IC-DLI international co-chairs.

The IC-DLI Awards Committee will produce five “Deep Life Paper” and two SiYuan-Ocean Emerging Leaders. For SiYuan-Ocean Emerging Leaders, ideally one nominee in marine deep life and another in terrestrial deep life will be selected.

AWARD PROCEDURE

IC-DLI will reveal the recipients of “2021 Deep Life Paper” and “SiYuan-Ocean Emerging Leaders” on IC-DLI website and through email. Recipients will be presented with an award package includes:

• An award certificate from IC-DLI

• An oral presentation opportunity in IC-DLI webinar series

• A honorarium by IC-DLI (US $500)
