Prof. Yu Zhang participated in the “TS21-1” cruise by R/V “Tan Suo Yi Hao” from Aug. 11 to Oct. 8, 2021, and carried out scientific expedition of hadal trench in Western Pacific Ocean successfully. The cruise was organized by Institute of Deep-sea Science and Engineering, CAS. The entire cruise lasted for 59 days. Prof. Yu Zhang dived three times via the Human Occupied Vehicle (HOV) Fendouzhe and reached the depth of 10,900 meters. Abundant sediment samples, rocks, water, organism samples were collected, which provided precious materials and data for trench ecosystem research.
