Due to requests from applicants and consideration of the coming holidays, we are delighted to announce that IC-DLI has extended the application submission deadline of IC-DLI Collaborative Research Fund to 12:00 midnight of December 20, 2022 (UTC+08:00, Beijing Time). And considering that institutional commitment letter, which should be included in the final application package (please check Instruction for IC-DLI Collaboration Research Fund for details), may take long time for preparation in some universities and institutes, the institutional commitment letter is allowed to submit later than other materials and its submission deadline is 12:00 midnight of January 15, 2023 (UTC+08:00, Beijing Time).

The International Center for Deep Life Investigation (IC-DLI) invites applications for IC-DLI Collaborative Research Fund to support researchers at universities or institutions abroad who wish to conduct deep life research. This fund aims to provide more opportunities to international researchers at different stages of their academic careers and strengthen the international research cooperation in the field of deep life, so only international applicants will be considered. We encourage applicants to collaborate with IC-DLI members and launch collaborative projects, but independent applications are also welcome. Applications to this fund are open to all areas of research related to deep life. Appropriate themes may include (but are not limited to):

  • The relationship and interaction of deep life with surface life, as well as biogeochemical cycling controlled by deep life

  • The composition, accessibility, and quantification of organic matter, electron donors, and electron acceptors

  • Temporal and geographical patterns of microbial community composition

  • How energy flux, temperature, pressure and other factors define the limits of life

  • The diversity and function of the deep virosphere

  • Evolutionary rates in the deep subsurface and their consequences

The project may employ field, laboratory, or computational studies with observational, theoretical, or experimental approaches.

Project Duration

The award is for 2 years, from March, 2023 to March, 2025. Projects are expected to be conducted for any duration within the given two-year time frame.

Estimated Number of Awards
